10 July 2005

From the diary:
I think I may have the secret to why I love this countryside so much. It is the beauty of the whole as defined by all the little parts that make it up; the landscape is divided and compartmentalised, whether it be with fences, hills and valleys or landscapes. It is distinctive in itself and in man’s hand. It is fun for me to see the lie of the land, and make informed decisions on what it all means - like the moment I saw Old Sarum mound and knew exactly what it was.
